The FPA Secretariat officially resumed its operation earlier this year in Taipei after a 28-year hiatus since it went into hibernation in 1971 in Tokyo. The MODAROC (the Motion Picture & Drama Association of ROC), Taipei's representative body at the FPA, was delegated to take charge of the operation of the Secretariat according to the resolution passed by the Board of Directors at the meeting on December 9, 1998 held in concurrence with the 43rd Asia-Pacific Film Festival.
The main mission of the Secretariat is to provide a permanent base of communications, foster cooperation, monitor activities within the Asia- Pacific region and assist the host city in organizing the annual film festival.
The first cooperative project has already been undertaken between Taipei's Central Motion Picture Corporation and Bangkok's Five Star Productions Co. With many tasks ahead, the Secretariat staff is sparing no effort in making this office an effective body to promote the motion picture industry in Asia-Pacific.
